We absolutely loved Das Collection of Abayas that was designed by Reem Beljafla and Hind Beljafla. We got a chance to interview them check out the detailed interview below:
Tell me a little about yourself. Where are you from? What is your educational background?
Reem Beljafla (RB) I am Emirati, born and raised. I was educated in Dubai, and attended the American University  before going to London to complete her studies and to take a few courses at St Martin’s College of Art and Design.
Hind Beljafla (HB) I am Emirati, born and raised. I studied in Dubai and then followed my sister to the UK to study hotel management at University of Manchester. It was an amazing experience to study abroad, and to bring new inspirations back to Dubai.
What does fashion mean to you? Who or what inspires you?
RB:  Fashion is a means of expressing your personality, and it gives the wearer a sense of identity. It has been my travels to fashion capitals such as London and Paris that have inspired me, and I admire designers such as Oscar de la Renta who have such a creative flair.
HB:Â Alexandra McQueen collections used to be the source of my inspiration.
How would you define the style your line exemplifies?
HB:Â Avant-garde, bold and unique
RB:Â We like to design abayas with our unique signature creating a conservative silhouette
What do you think sets Dubai and the Middle Eastern region apart from the rest of the world in terms of fashion and style?
RB: Its people and culture. I have always been interested in the history of our region, and when I first started designing, I spent much time researching the abaya and its history, and it really showed how rich our heritage is. In recently years, people in the Middle East have set may global trends – they know what they want, they know their style and fashion houses are now starting to pay attention to these demands because after Russia and China, the Middle East is the next biggest buyer of luxury goods.
Who, past and present, would you most like to dress?
RB: Sheika Moza of Qatar as I love the way wears her abayas. She is definitely an icon in my eyes, and is a true representation of our label – we aim to strike the balance between being at the very cutting edge of fashion and yet ensure that our abayas still represent our culture and heritage which we have such a deep and profound respect for.
HB: My mother. She is glamourous and beautiful, and we feel proud when she wears our abayas.
What for you is exciting in fashion now?
RB:Â I love all the mediums and fabrics at the moment especially the use of metallic colours, mediums, and grubby gold
HB: i love colours colours and more colours
